Do it for your children

My father once told me the tale of how as an aeronautical engineer someone came to him and offered to make him a millionaire if he could hide cocaine in the aircraft for them to transport it elsewhere. Despite the fact that as an engineer, he knew a lot of secret parts of the aircraft that no one will ever locate, he declined the offer. Assuming he was as greedy as a lot of boys in this generation, he would have done it, but he thought of the implications….

What would become of his children if he was caught, arrested, and prosecuted? What would happen to the family name? Is it the right thing to do? Despite not being born again at the time, he rejected the offer because he didn’t want that kind of money. How many people can do that today?

It is an open secret that many have become rich as a result of claiming entitlements of others, sitting on the sweat of many to “claim” to be among the high and mighty in society. I wonder if it ever occurs to them that it’s the same six feet that is dug for the poor that will be dug for the rich. When anyone dies, they leave all they have acquired, stolen or amassed on this earth to be buried without cash, land, or cars. After the final rites at the funeral, everyone bids the corpse goodbye.

After parents who have done dubious transactions die, they leave their children to become ridiculed by society. They become the joke of many as they point accusing fingers at them and make reference to their parents’ inconsiderate acts. For instance, “here comes the daughter of the man who embezzled money at our organization”.

They fail to come to the realization that wealth gotten by vanity shall vanish. Plus all is vanity. That car you are ready to spend so much on today will be irrelevant in some years to come. For instance, Volkswagen Beetle 1970 and Mercedes-Benz 1970 cars that were used by the rich in the 80s have become so outdated now. Nokia 3310 which was used only by the wealthy is not even used by the poor in the year 2022.

This indicates that all is vanity upon vanity. Therefore, what pays is enjoying the “little” you have with peace of mind, rather than amassing wealth that will give you high blood pressure later in life. On several occasions, one is faced with the choice of doing what is right or opting to dance to the tune of the evil genius in us to do evil. It is quite important to do the needful.

In conclusion, whenever you are tempted to take the wrong path to be rich or stay rich, think of your children, name, future, and burial. Do the right thing. As the elections draw nigh, it is time for sober reflection, rather than vote for people that will run the race backward, vote the right people into power. Do it for your children.
